The Welcome Europe programme has been designed to enable students at key stages three and four to acquire basic customer care language in a range of languages. It builds a cultural awareness so as to equip them to meet the needs of visitors/customers from European countries.
The programme is not aimed at the lesser able student necessarily. Consequently it is a means of catering for disapplication for those students exempted from following a full or short course in modern languages - Students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to sample another language.
Welcome Europe is a twelve hour programme which may be delivered one hour per day for twelve days or over two half days.
Objectives
- To meet needs by providing relevant and realistic qualifications.
- To strengthen relationships in the business - education sector.
- To improve standards within industry and education.
- To develop people by equiping them with the personal, social and educational skills enabling them to contribuute to a global society in today's Northern Ireland.
- To address the Department of Education policies on disaplication and diversification.
- Develop an I can approach to language learning.
- Equip young people to access a broad range of languages.
- Develop basic language skills.
- Develop key skills.
Schools can purchase the programme by:
- Purchasing training as required from Abbey Training Services
- Nominating a teacher to become a Welcome Europe trainer for the School
The benefits of having an in school trainer are:
- Flexibility - the training may be delivered as and when required to individual school/institution.
- Cost effectiveness - schools pay a one-off fee for training the trainer.
- Professional development of teachers - modern language teachers offer an industry-specific programme.
- Support for trainers - scheduled quarterly meetings designed to enable teachers/trainers to network with each other and receive update developments within the Tourism and Hospitality sector.
