Learning Management System
A learning management system is a computer programme that runs on a central server, either internally at your company, or on the Internet. The learning management system provides a central point of access to all electronic learning materials and provides services for managing and tracking the progress of participants through the blended programme.
The tracking services track every user through every section of every piece of e-learning - gathering information including: access time, time spent, marks awarded (for assessments or games), path taken (through e-learning where navigational choices are presented to the user). This information can then be collated in a variety of reports which can be used to measure the performance of the user and the efficacy of the e-learning.
The management services allow for:
- users to be added and deleted from the system,
- users to be enrolled in courses,
- users to be given privileges to manage the system, enrol users and access reports.
To simplify initial set-up this information can be imported from existing sources such as Payroll or human resource systems.
